Presidential Candidates Take a Beating
Our political humorists always have a hay day during a presidential election. They absolutely don’t spare anyone who has the nerve to open their mouth and make speeches. They are our watchdogs that use their humor to open our eyes and get our attention. Some people feel sorry for the candidates, but if they can’t take it – they need to get out of Dodge.
Jay Leno and David Lettermen do two things with the political satire; (1) They get belly laughs from their audience, and (2) They point out real problems in our government via political humor. Several others who are outstanding political humorists are, Conan O’Brien, Steven Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.
If you haven’t followed the platforms of the presidential candidates, you’ll get some real eye openers if you listen to these humorists. They’ve a story to tell thru humor and it’s there way of getting our attention in this fast-paced world of ours.
The past few generation’s political videos, political bloopers along with political cartoons are way on top of popularity list. All of these political humor venues have a job to do and they do it well – they definitely stimulate our senses and get our attention and response.
Is it wrong to make fun of others mistakes – maybe some would answer yes to this question, but remember this we’re talking about people who dare to think they are qualified to walk on our government turf? If politicians towed the line, we wouldn’t need political humor!
Our American citizens should be included on “a need to know basis.” There’s too many things that scoot past our eye or miss our ears. Don’t think for one minute that just because we preface this information by calling it “political humor” doesn’t equate to lack of substance in what these men and women are saying.
